Herbivore Botanicals Clay Soap Bar

The hipster clay soap on everyone’s wish list

Herbivore’s pink clay soap bar is as minimal as the packaging; made with few ingredients that are, more importantly, made with easy to pronounce items, this soap is for the nature lover or artist that desires a delicate scent and straight forward function.

Made with essential oils and two kinds of clay (a neutral ingredient that is good for all skin types), Herbivore’s soap provides a simple and attractive soap bar that doesn’t offer any of the strange descriptions/claims that some heavily chemical-based soaps do (such as “age defying“). Manufactured without animal testing and used with all-natural ingredients (though not all are organic), the essential oils are produced using a  cold-pressed or steam distilled method (aka, without weird chemical fillers).  Even better, all the products in this soap are made in the United States! Simply put, Herbivore’s clay soap gets the job done in an elegant and natural way.

When used, it doesn’t disintegrate under pressure, but is slightly malleable and soft to the touch (more so than chemically-enriched soaps). It froths pleasantly, and leaves your hands with a light floral scent that’s not overwhelming. This soap bar would make a nice hostess or pregnancy gift. Coming in at a moderate $12, it may seem like a lot to spend on soap, but it’s quality ingredients justify its cost.

The main appeal of Herbivore’s soap is its use of french pink clay, which is a combination of red and white clays. Considered to be one of the mildest of all the clays, it’s gentle nature is good for a range of skin types (the package says it’s good for both dry and oily skin types). Also known for treating acne, it removes dead skin cells and can heal sun damaged skin. Through providing light exfoliation, this bar is good for any part of your body, though we’ll probably use it as a hand soap.

Here are some of the highlights Herbivore offers:
